Transitional Kindergarten
Chinese: In Chinese class this week we read the lessons 媽媽和寶貝 and 頭和肩膀膝腳趾. We learned the characters, 心 and 耳. We were very good at reading the lessons and writing the characters.
In Chinese Culture class, we made lily 百合花 for our moms. We used pipe clearner for stem and use white petals to glue on it. We learned to say lily, stem and petal in Mandarin.. We loved the art project! In addition, we learned to sing 外婆家的屋簷 and 捏泥巴. Can't wait to sing to our moms and dads.
In Math, we continued to make progress in addition and subtraction. We worked on finding missing numbers and regrouping.
English: This week in English, the students read the story called, “My Brother’s English: This week in English, students read the story “Something Odd”. Through this story, students were introduce to the suffix -less which means without. They were also introduced to compound words and learn that two words can be join to become one. Words that they have learned are - something, odd, mailbag, and hopeless. Other compound words that the class learned are - farmhouse, sunflower, doorman, starfish, and earphone.
In art this week, students made “lollipop flowers”. From this art project, they cut out three different shaped circles and glued them from biggest to smallest. The students learned how to incorporate shapes and sizes in this project.
In Science class, students observe the bean sprouts. They felt and touch the beans and the sprout. They were able to share with their friends how it felt and looked. As the days went by, the students observe how tall the bean sprout has grown. The class also observed the root of the bean sprout. One of the bean sprout grew without leaves and the other one sprouted with leaves. The students were amaze with the difference. .



Kindergarten
In Chinese class this week, we read Unit 7 story, 我的手拿不出來了. From the story, we that we should not be greedy. In addition, we practiced for the trimester 3 vocabulary assessment. For calligraphy, we wrote 一諾千金 which literally means that a promise worth a thousand gold coins. Most importantly, we sang the song 寶貝 and danced with the song, 跳舞機器人.
First Grade
In Chinese class this week, we reread lesson,書和筆 in addition to reviewing vocabulary and the story, 小雪手中一枝筆. We practiced writing and identifying the key words from the word lists given for the trimester 3 test. We then wrote a poem for Mother's Day. Lastly, we sang 寶貝,小木馬 and快樂崇拜.
Second Grade
In Chinese class this week, we read the story, 元宵節的傳說 and completed the story map. From the story, we learned about the legend of 元宵節. We then moved on with our lesson 檸檬汁和小鳥. The story is about a little boy, Ming Ming, selling home-made lemonade to buy the parrot. We practiced using vocabulary we learned from the stories including 元旦,數學,存摺,買東西, 銀河,不行 and 謝謝.
Third/Fourth Grade
This week we focused on the key skills, to make words and phrases using vocabulary we learned such as 追上,緊張,龍舟,玉米油,結果,亞軍,祝福 and 方向. We also learned to descibed the four seasons using desctiptive words. Lastly, we complete our weekly journal writing about the highlight of the week.

Transitional Kindergarten
Chinese: In Chinese class this week we reviewed the lessons, 小鹿,牛奶,你好小鳥,騎馬,小小羊兒,and放學了。We also reviewed words such as 角,牛,鳥,馬,羊,家。This week we began a series of mini books. We read 汽球飛了 and 書包裡有什麼 We did a follow up activity with making our Panda Bear 熊貓 mini book and taking the book home to read to our daddy and mommy.
In Chinese Culture class, we made glasses using pipe cleaner. From the activity, we learned to say the words, 眼睛 and 眼鏡. We also did paper folding. This time, we fold panda bear. The best part is we learned to say it in Mandarin 熊貓 and discussed about what 熊貓 like to eat and where you can find 熊貓.
In Math, we continued to make progress in addition and subtraction. We worked on finding missing numbers and regrouping.
English: This week in English, the students read the story called, “My Brother’s Candy”. Through this story, the students learned the -y ending sounds. When words end with -y, it can either make a “e” or “i” sound. Words that they have learned from the story are - my, buy, candy, and crispy. Other words that they have learned are fly, cry, baby, sky, and try.
This week in Art, students finished their “I Love Earth Day” Project. They practiced cutting out the heart shapes Earth. The class also used watercolor paint to color in their Earth. The students enjoyed this project, experimenting with different kind of ways to color in their Earth. Some students mixed blue and green paint to make yellow.
In Science this week, students are experimenting on how to grow bean plants. We used two type of beans; one type of bean that we used are mung beans and the other is pinto beans. The class is observing and experimenting with the bean. So far, they have seen the pinto beans opening up. Now they are waiting for the roots to come out. The students also practice how to take care of plants - by watering it daily and making sure they get their nutrition! The class is looking forward next week to observe the bean and see which stage they will be in.
Kindergarten
In Chinese class this week, we celebrated Earth day discussing how we can help protect our earth. We then reread the lessons 小嘴巴,鏡子 and 比一比. We practiced applying the phrases in the lessons including 比一比, 李子,刀子,座位, 哎呀,行李. We sang and danced to the songs 卡加布列島 and 小木馬.
First Grade
In Chinese class this week, we reread lesson 9 一共有幾本書 and小雪手中一枝筆. We practiced writing and identifying the key words: 長,如,先,拿,共,畫,筆,為,才,毛, 後. We then discussed about the Earth day and completed wordsearh practice. We sang and danced to the songs 小木馬 and 快樂崇拜,
Second Grade
In Chinese class this week, we read the story, 聰明的土地伯婆 andcomplete the story map. From the story, we learned that learned the trick to please and satisfy the wish of each person. In addition, we read a selection, 明明的撲滿 from our textbook. The read aloud helped us to reinforce the characters, phrases, and sentence structure from last week.
Third/Fourth Grade
This week we focus on the lesson 9, 夏季運動會, The story is about a boy name Tang Guo-Zhou fell down in the 1000 meter race but he got up and con finished his race. In the end, he won second place. From this story we learned not to give up hope and be persistent. Read aloud helped us to gain fluency as well as reinforce words identification and sentence structures. For more practice, we used words from the story to make senteces.

Transitional Kindergarten
Chinese: In Chinese class this week we reviewed the lessons, 跟爺爺散步, 螢火蟲,娃娃,腳印,小奶牛,and 少吃零食。We also reviewed words such as 食,走,竹,花,瓜,蟲。This week we began a series of mini books. We read 我愛我的家 and 這是誰. We did a follow up activity with making our faminily mini book. We added daddy, mommy and pets to our books!
In Chinese Culture class, we made a car out of a paper plate. The goal of the activity is to have children be able to tell about the color, the shape of their cars. Next we did the traffic light. From the activity, students are able to tell the color of the traffic light and the action verbs go, stop and slow down.
In Math, we continued to make progress in addition and subtraction while a few of us began to learn number system in Mandarin.
English: This week in English, the students read the story called, “Uncle Bill and the Snake”. Through this story, the students practice the phonetic concepts of final, stable syllables. Words that the class practiced is – rumbles, shuffled, apple, saddle, wiggled, uncle, puzzled, hassle and twinkle. The students also practiced counting the syllables as they clap to the word.
In Art this week, students made a pop-up flower. They each got a sheet of paper that had straight lines. They were able to practice their fine motor skill by cutting straight lines and then folding the stripes of paper. Next, they made their own “Rainy Day Umbrella”. The students practiced cutting rounded lines instead of straight line. The class has also begun their “I Love Earth Day” project and will continue to work on it next week.
In Science this week, students did an index card experiment. They practice cutting patterns (Up, down, up down) and they cut along the fold of the index card. They open up the index card after and were surprised to see how it became such a huge chain that fit around their body! The students were amazed and excited to see the outcome of the index card. Some even made small chains that fit around their wrist and over their head.
Kindergarten
In Chinese class this week, we reread the lessons 小嘴巴,鏡子 and moved on to lesson 14 比一比。In addition to reviewing previously learned words, we practiced the sentence patterns, ...叫..,...了...,..走.... We played a guessing game. We put objects and flashcards into a box and have students to close their eyes and grab a thing from the box and tell the name of the object. We loved playing games a lot!
First Grade
In Chinese class this week, we reviewed lesson 8 怎麼回家 and moved on to lesson 9. We practiced writing and identifying the key words: 書,和,筆,長,本,如,先,拿,共,書,筆,為,才,毛,後. We sang songs星星的心,螢火蟲, and快樂的崇拜。
Second Grade
In Chinese class this week, we learned seven new words: 房,囪, 窗,戶,方,錢 and 打. We practiced writing, making phrases and using them in sentences. We read the story 猴子報恩 and completed the story map to identify the characters, setting, problem, solution and the ending of the story. From the story we learned that helping others can have a good outcome.
Third/Fourth Grade
The key skills for the Chinese class this week are to make words and phrases using vocabulary we learned such as 夏天, 季節,舉行,已經,經過,開始 in sentences. To expand the writing skills, we wrote 3-4 paragraphs to tell about spring break activities.

Transitional Kindergarten
Chinese: In Chinese class this week we reviewed the lessons, 小丑魚and 鸚鵡. We reviewed previously learned vocabulary including the words: 魚 and 鳥. In addition, We read the stories, 你幾歲 and 氣球飛了。The students were wonderful in answering questions in Mandarin!
In Chinese Culture class, we made a fish out of a paper plate. First we cut a triangle to make the mouth, then used the triangle cut out to make the tail. We then decorated our fish with cut-out. Next project we did was making pork bun. We learned to say the ingredients, including flour麵粉, dough 麵團, pork 豬肉, bun 包子. It was delicious! The next day, we made a mini book about how to make pork bun!
In Math, we continued to make progress in addition and subtraction while a few of us began to learn number system in Mandarin.
English: This week in English, students read the story called "To Val from Jen". The phonetic concepts that were practiced from this story are j(jam) and v(velvet). They practiced high frequency words such as - five, gave, jump just, give, have, live, and says. Other story words the class has practice are j(just), j(jeep), j(Jen), j(jam), v(vest), v(Val), and v(vine).
In Art class, students made paper daises out of different color papers. The class practice their fine motor skills by cutting straight lines for the petals of their flowers. They folded their stripes of papers and glued the ends. After, they glued their folded petals onto the center of their flower.
In Science this week, the class did a candy experiment. The candy we chose for this experiment are m&m chocolates. The students made predictions of what would happen to the m&m if it was left in the water. Some students predicted that the water will turn into "chocolate water". So we tested their theory out. The class observed the m&m in water and notice the color of the m&m were coming off and turning the water to the color. At the end, the "m" from the m&m floated on top. The students learned that the "m" in the center of the chocolate was made out of edible paper.
