From the story, we better understood the meaning of the word, 衣服. We also learned a verse in the rhyme 城門城門幾丈高? 三十六丈高! 騎白馬 ,帶把刀 ,走進城門滑一跤. In addition, we also learned about the Chinese historical story, 曹操獻刀 to help the students to remember the word 刀.

In English, the students continued to practice the short /u/ sound. They were also introduced to the long /u/ sound. The class compared short /u/ words and long /u/ words to hear and see the difference. Words that they have practiced this week are – unicorn, mule, tube, suit, and cube. Further, they were introduced to a new story called, “Stripes, Right?” The students colored their storybook this week and will bring it home next week to practice at home.

In Art, we made turkeys! We were able to practice their fine motor skills by cutting rounded edges and smaller shapes. After, we glued the feathers on the back of our turkey template. This art project allowed us to use our sensory skills by touching the feather and feeling it. The feathers were soft and the vibrant colors gave our turkeys a nice pop!

In Science, we learned about hurricanes! We made our own hurricane using a few supplies, a bowl of water and a large spoon to stir the water in a clockwise direction. As the water is swirling, we added a couple drops of watercolor to the center of the bowl. We observed the swirling water and noticed how the liquid watercolor began to get larger and larger, thus creating a “hurricane”.

Second Grade: This week our second graders wrote Chinese addition word problems for assignment. We then took turns to solve the word problems. Next, we read the next story, Planting Fish 種魚. We asked and answered questions, analyzed the events as well as summarized the story. We learned from the story not to make sense of our choices in order to reap the benefit from making good choices.

Third Grade: It was a short week, but we made great progress on reading comprehension of the story, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, 感恩節大遊行. The story was about a little girl, Ming-Ming and her family who celebrated Thanksgiving watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade in New York City. In addition, we practiced weekly quiz at school and read lyrics of two songs to prepare for the Chinese New Year’s performance.

Fourth/Fifth Grade: This week we emphasized the reading comprehension of the story, I Made it Myself, 這是我自己做的. The story was about the origin of Halloween and taught us how to make Halloween costumes by ourselves. We then answered the relevant questions to the story. Additionally, we read lyrics of two songs to prepare for the Chinese New Year’s performance.

All that we behold is full of blessings.
