Transitional Kindergarten:
In Chinese class this week, we learned the new words:衣and 刀. From the words, we applied them in phrases, 衣:衣服,毛衣,大衣;刀:小刀,剪刀 and 菜刀. We read aloud a story 國王的新衣. From the story, we better understood the meaning of the word, 衣服. We also learned a verse in the rhyme 城門城門幾丈高? 三十六丈高! 騎白馬 ,帶把刀 ,走進城門滑一跤. In addition, we also learned about the Chinese historical story, 曹操獻刀 to help the students to remember the word 刀.
In English, the students continued to practice the short /u/ sound. They were also introduced to the long /u/ sound. The class compared short /u/ words and long /u/ words to hear and see the difference. Words that they have practiced this week are – unicorn, mule, tube, suit, and cube. Further, they were introduced to a new story called, “Stripes, Right?” The students colored their storybook this week and will bring it home next week to practice at home.
In Art, we made turkeys! We were able to practice their fine motor skills by cutting rounded edges and smaller shapes. After, we glued the feathers on the back of our turkey template. This art project allowed us to use our sensory skills by touching the feather and feeling it. The feathers were soft and the vibrant colors gave our turkeys a nice pop!
In Science, we learned about hurricanes! We made our own hurricane using a few supplies, a bowl of water and a large spoon to stir the water in a clockwise direction. As the water is swirling, we added a couple drops of watercolor to the center of the bowl. We observed the swirling water and noticed how the liquid watercolor began to get larger and larger, thus creating a “hurricane”.
Kindergarten: We started the week off with reviewing Lesson 5 Little People Climbing the Big Mountain 小人兒上大山 and moved on to the second story on Lesson 5, At Night 晚上. We focused on applying descriptive words such as 尖尖的, 圓圓的, 方方的, and 彎彎的. This week we sang and danced to the songs, 青春修煉手冊 and 江南 Style. In Art, we drew turkeys to welcome Thanksgiving!
First Grade:
We continued with the story, Let's Guess 猜猜看. In addition to applying vocabularies, 前,們,都,誰,哥, etc. in sentences. We then moved on to the story, The Uncle's Riddles 叔叔的謎語. Let's see if you can guess the riddle, five little brothers, some tall and some short.
We sang and danced to the songs, 青春修煉手冊 and 江南 Style. In Art, we drew turkeys for Thanksgiving.
Second Grade: This week our second graders wrote Chinese addition word problems for assignment. We then took turns to solve the word problems. Next, we read the next story, Planting Fish 種魚. We asked and answered questions, analyzed the events as well as summarized the story. We learned from the story not to make sense of our choices in order to reap the benefit from making good choices.
Third Grade: It was a short week, but we made great progress on reading comprehension of the story, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, 感恩節大遊行. The story was about a little girl, Ming-Ming and her family who celebrated Thanksgiving watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade in New York City. In addition, we practiced weekly quiz at school and read lyrics of two songs to prepare for the Chinese New Year’s performance.
Fourth/Fifth Grade: This week we emphasized the reading comprehension of the story, I Made it Myself, 這是我自己做的. The story was about the origin of Halloween and taught us how to make Halloween costumes by ourselves. We then answered the relevant questions to the story. Additionally, we read lyrics of two songs to prepare for the Chinese New Year’s performance.

Transitional Kindergarten:
In Chinese class, we reviewed previously learned Chinese words: 女 and 子. We combined the two words 女 and 子 to make the new character, 好. We discussed how to become a good kid 好孩子. Some of the ideas include help cleaning up, put away books and listen to moms and dads. Most importantly, we worked on character recognitions, matching previously learned words to pictures and traced characters, 女 and 子.
In English class, the students were introduced to the phonic blend /tr/ and short /u/ sound. The students practiced the /tr/ blend with words such as tree, truck, try, treasure, trumpet, and trampoline. Further, the class was introduced to short /u/ sounds. A few words the class has been practicing are umbrella, up, and under. In addition, the class is reading the story, “Pigs All Around” and a copy of the story has been sent home to the students to practice at home.
For Science, the students learned about “The Water Cycle”. To go along with the class, we sang “The Water Cycle” song. The students also made their own water cycle bag to see the action that goes on in the cycle.
In Art class, the students did finger painting art. They created a turkey finger print art for the start of November. The students were excited to explore using watercolors for their finger painting. Through finger painting, the students were able to focus on the process of creating their turkey and developed better sensory integration.
Kindergarten: We started the week off with reviewing Lesson 1-4 and moved on to the story, Xiao Shi's Balloon 小石的氣球 and Lesson 5 Little People Climbing the Big Mountain 小人兒上大山. We sang and danced to the songs, 妖怪手錶:宇宙Dance and 波力卡通主題曲. In Art, we drew a basket of apples to celebrate the fall harvest!
First Grade: We first reviewed Lesson 1 to Lesson 3 and the story, 友友的午飯. We assessed vocabulary from Lesson 1 to 2. We then began the story, Let's Guess 猜猜看. We sang and danced to the songs, 妖怪手錶:宇宙Dance and 你是我的花朵. In Art, we drew a basket of apples to welcome Fall!
Second Grade: At the beginning of the week, our second graders worked hard on the upcoming assessment including writing 25 characters, pinyin and radical. In addition, we also practiced identifying science and social studies vocabularies. We hope to do well at the Trimester 1 assessment. We will continue with our regular Chinese work next week.
Third Grade: This week we learned new vocabularies including: 各, 其, 英, 遊, 通,抱 and 著. We then used these words to form new phrases, such as, 各位, 其他, 英文, 遊行, 交通, 抱怨, 拿著. We also read sample sentences in the textbook and paid attention to these word in the context. Following that, we used some high frequency words to make our own sentences. Additionally, we prepared for an upcoming vocabulary assessment at school.
Fourth/Fifth Grade: We learned new vocabularies: 嚇. 被. 紀, 應, 該. 布. 單 and 主. We then applied these words to form new phrases: 嚇一跳, 被嚇到, 紀念, 應當,答應, 白布, 單數, 主意. We also read example sentences in the textbook to comprehend the contextual meanings of these phrases. We applied these words to make our own sentences to master these vocabularies.
