December 7-11

Transitional Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week we learned the lesson,在哪裡? and 頭和肩膀膝腳趾. This week we learned to write the characters, 心 and 耳. The students are very good at singing and dancing to the tunes of the rhymes. This week we took home both lessons to read to our mom and dad.

 

In Chinese Culture class, we drew snowman and learned to say snow 雪, snowman 雪人, snowing 下雪...etc. We also made a phone to learn that vibrations 震動 make sounds 聲音. We used the phone to greet each others in Mandarin!

 

In Math, we continued to practice subtraction within 10.  We became really good at it this week!

 

English: This week, the class reviewed long and short vowels words through the story, “Summer at the Farm”. Students reviewed short a, e, i, o, and u words such as – cat, lap, nap, hot, dogs, fun, hit, and fed. Students also review long vowel words. Words that students reviewed were – came, they, use, and tube. The next story the students read is called, “An Ant Nap. Students learned how to identify the “n” sound in words. Students learned the words – not, an, and, nap, nine, new, now, and sand.

 

In Art, students decorated ornaments with their handprint. The handprints were transformed into snowmen. After, they were allowed to change the colors of their ornaments. The students used Biocolor paint to mix the different colors. Students were amazed to see how well the colors mixed. The next art project the class worked on was creating a Christmas tree. They created the Christmas tree out of their handprints as well. The class allowed it to dry and later added on Christmas lights that were made from their thumbprints.

 

This week for Science, students did a “Sink or Float” experiment. Students learned the meaning of the term “predications”. The class made a couple of predications on objects they believed would sink or float. This experiment was very fun for the students to see if their predications were right or wrong! The class became enthusiastic when they got their predications correct.

 

Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class we began the week by reading the lesson, 紅下雨天真好玩 just in time for the raining season. We practiced writing the characters from the lesson. For Chinese calligraphy, we wrote the idiom, 一見如故 which means that although we just met, it seems we knew each others for so long . More importantly, we learned a new dance 我們祝你聖誕快樂 and sing the songs, 茉莉花 and 稍息立正站好.

 

First Grade

 

Chinese: This week in Chinese class, we reviewed lesson 5,請開門 and moved on to the story in lesson 5, 中中的門牙. We continued to review the vocabularies we learned at CP as well as Mei Zhou vocabularies through ball games and flashcards. The idiom we learned this week is興高采烈 to describe our feeling of excitement for the winter break!

Most importantly, we learned to sing a Christmas song, 我們祝你聖誕快樂! Wish everyone a Merry X'mas!

Second Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we focused on the key words, 床, 椅, 常. 就, 歌, 網, 低, 對. These are the weekly vocbularies from our day school. We studied the structure and compositions of these vocabularies. For story, we read 好吃懶做的小象. We also learned to recite the poem, 元日 for upcoming literacy week.

 

Third/Fourth Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we focused on the characters, 煮, 鍋. 忙, 香, 覺, 味, 幸. We did dictation on these vocabularies on Friday. For speaking practice, students delivered a short speech using this vocabularies we learned this week. We wrapped up the week with learning a new poem, 元日.

November 30-December 4

Transitional Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week we learned the lesson, 山上有老虎 and 小木偶. This week we wrapped up our first Chinese book and will move on to the next book. This week we took home 小白鵝 lesson to read to our mom and dad.

 

In Chinese Culture class, we drew snow snowy scenery and made snowman ornaments to add to our Christmas tree. We learned to say 聖誕節快樂 Merry Christmas and  雪花 snowflakes.

 

In Math, we continued to count forward and backward. We were very good at adding to the sum of 10 and subtracting within 10. Way to go!

 

English: This week, students learned the “th” phonetic sound from the story “They Like That Mud”. Students learned how to blend sounds together with the help of our “th” song. Words learned from this lesson are – them, bath, that, them, then, this, with and they. The next story the students read is called, “Time for Food”. Through this story, students learned the 3 different R-controlled sounds – ar, or and er. The class learned different type of R-controlled words like – farm, corn, Fern, for, her, or and are. The students danced and sung to the three phonetic songs that they have learned to help them blend the sounds. They really enjoyed dancing and singing together!

 

In Art, students made their own snowman snow globe. The kids enjoyed painting with their fingers to create their snowman and snow. They also added glitter to their snow globe to make it sparkle. The next art project the class worked on was creating their Christmas tree. They wanted to add glitter to their tree as well. The class enjoyed getting their hands full of glitter! Furthermore, the class made reindeer ornaments for our Christmas tree out of their handprints and hung them on the Christmas tree.

 

For Science this week, students learned how strong heat could dry certain objects quicker than the air. We experimented this with glue and strings. We covered the string with glue and created a star shape with the strings that were soaked in glue. After, we used a blow dryer to produce very high heat to see how quick the glue can dry up. Next, the class went on a nature walk around the playground. The class worked on observations and observed their surroundings and findings. The class noticed how it was very cold outside and that the leaves and rocks were wet. They also notice the size difference of the their findings.

 

Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class we began the week by reviewing lesson 7, 紅花和白花 and practiced writing the characters from the lesson. We then moved on to the the lesson, 大風和. For Chinese calligraphy, we wrote the idiom, 一成不變 which means things rarely change. More importantly, we learned a new dance 你是我的花呆 and sing the songs, 茉莉花 and 來猜拳.

 

First Grade

 

Chinese: This week in Chinese class, we reviewed  lesson 4, 猜猜看 and practiced writing previously learned vocabularies.  We then moved on to lesson 5 請開門. We also reviewed the vocabularies we learned at CP using flashcards. Most importantly, we also practiced the poem to recite during Literacy Week. Lastly, we learned the new idiom,平平安安 to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday!

 

Second Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we focused on the key words, 推, 拉, 停, 放, 慢, 台, 桌, 屋. We studied the composition of these characters to help us remember these charactes. We made improvement in writing these characters.  j, q, x, y and v. We learned the pin yin song to reinforce these sounds. We wrapped up the week with singing the song, 小蘋果.

 

Third/Fourth Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we focused on the characters, 假, 冰, 湯..etc and practiced the sentence structure, 先...然後.... We did dictation on these vocabularies on Friday. For speaking practice, students delivered a short speech using the sentence structure we learned this week. We wrapped up the week with learning a new song, 小蘋果.
