2/23-2/27

 

Transistional Kindergarten: We studies Lesson 4 大家早, Good Morning Everyone. In the lesson we learned the phrases: 老師, 同學, 慢跑, 早操 and applied the following expressions in sentences: 我的, 這是, 他叫, 你是. We learned to sing the song, 一隻小鹿.

 


Kindergarten: In Mandarin class this week, we practiced identify the following characters for upcoming assessment at our school. These characters are 白, 在, 有, 不, 跑, 跳, 上,下,顏色, 綠, 藍, 紅, 黑, 黃. In addition, we practiced writing the characters for the writing assessment. We hoped to do well at our school. In Tangshi, we memorized the poems: 問劉十九 and 蘆花.

 

This week for English class, the students read a short story called "What am I?". The story talks about how amazing nature is and how we should not pollute it. Students also participated in their first spelling bee which all the students performed very well. Many students learned new words and memorization techniques.

 

 

First Grade: In Mandarin class this week, we read the lesson: 中中的門牙. We focused on the following characters:門牙, 蘋果, 糟糕, 幫忙, 書, 一塊錢, 跌, 頂, 舌頭, 盒子, 枕頭, 帽子, We also worked on dictation test to prep for our assessment at our school.

 

Students this week studied their spelling bee words, and worked on numerous class activities to help them remember  how to spell the 90 plus words. Some of those activities were writing the words out, breaking down long words into easier parts, and quizzing each other.

 

 

Second Grade: We learned to address family names: 伯父, 叔叔,姑姑...We focused our weekly characters: 帶, 全, 奇, 怪, 吋, 次, 像. We studied and explored the meaning of the idiom, 苦口婆心.  Lastly, we read the story 一封奇怪的信...Do you know why the letter was returned to the sender?

 

Students this week took part in their spelling bee, and did very well. In preparation for their spelling bee, the students utilized many methods such as writing the words out, studing them at home, quizzing each other, and breaking apart longer words into smaller parts.

 

 

Third Grade: In Chinese, we read a story called 你變聰明了. We learned new phrases such as 肚子餓, 醫生, 治病, 吃藥, 特別. and 神奇. 

 

This week in English, we practiced combining different prefixes with base words and figuring out the meaning of the new words. For example, de+bone makes debone and pre+set makes preset. We also learned about proverbs such as "Once bitten, twice shy" and "Every cloud has a silver lining".

 

 

 

Fourth Grade: In Chinese, we looked at two different menus (菜單) and tried to figure out which choices we can buy given a certain amount of money. We also learned about the meaning of 不能外帶.

 

In English, we read a contemporary fiction called The Competitive Edge. The story was about the author and her friend Denise. We learned new words such as vicinity, displace, downfall, humiliate, and brisk.

 

 

Third grade: In Chinese, we learned to identify phrases such as aircraft, Chinatown, and radicals. Then we matched the phrases and listen, obsessed look, think, and look and smell to the appropriate sentence fragments. 

 

In English, we read the magazine article Return of the Wolves. We learned many facts about wolves and their families. We also learned new words such as juvenile, sift, drenched, and tardy. Then we applied those new words to the synonyms of lingers, binge, assortment, and saturate.

 

 

 

Second Grade: In Mandarin class this week, we read lesson 7: 我跟誰依樣.  We learned about lucky food for Chinese New Year: 水餃-元寶, 橘子-吉利, 蓮子-早生貴子, 蘿蔔糕-好彩頭. We  also learned words that have the radical 人: 信, 停, 做,借. Lastly, we practiced 28 words for our weekly test. 

 

In English, students worked on a Valentine's Day story of their choosing using vocabulary words they have learned in the past. Students also got to practice spelling  more of their vocabulary words and writing them out in complete sentences.

 
 

First Grade : In Mandarin class this week, we reviewed the characters that we have learned and add 鼠、牛、虎、兔、龍、蛇、馬、羊、猴、雞、狗、豬 the twelve zodiac. And read the zodiac story form lesson eight. Lastly we practiced writing characters, 送, 給, 來, 回, and 高 etc.

 
 

In English, students got to read a story called "A Dog with a Job", which is about a puppy who goes to "guide dog" school to learn how to assist people who can't see. Students also wrote a valentine's day story comprising of previous words that they have learned in the past

Kindergarten: In Mandarin class this week, we read the lesson, 猴子在做什麼? What Does the Monkey do? In the lesson we learned to write the characters: 跳, 爬, 走, 穿, 星...etc. By the end of the week, we gradually became really good with the lesson!

 

 

For English class this week, students got to work on their very own Valentine's Day letters. They got to decide who to write it for, for example they could write it to their parents or grandparents and what they do that they love. Students also got to make their own hearts and design them in a way that symbolizes the love for parents and/or grandparents.

 

Transitional Kindergarten: In Mandarin class this week, we read the lesson: 汪小米.  We learned to write the characters: 耳, 手, 水, 火. We learned to read the phrases: 坐汽車, 過馬路, 過山洞.  We also learned a new song, 哈巴狗.  We drew our own portrait and practiced introduce ourselves.

 

 

For English class this week, students got to work on their very own Valentine's Day letters. 2/9-2/13

 

Fourth Grade: In Chinese, we applied to phrases 剛才, 剛上市, and 剛好 to the appropriate sentences. We also used a school lunch menu (學校午餐菜單) to see what we could buy with five dollars.

 

In English, we read an essay called What Happened to Pennsylvania Station?. We learned about the different designs and objects in the station and also new words such as strive, demolish, hearty, alternate, and feat. Then we applied the new words we learned by completing sentences.

Transitional Kindergarten: In Mandarin class this week, we read the poem 新年到 The New Year Has Arrive. We also learned about words related to Chinese New Year: 橘子, 年糕, 壓歲錢. Lastly, we practiced singing and dancing for our CNY performance. 

2/2-2/6

 

Kindergarten: In Mandarin class this week, we read new lessons, 鏡子 and 小嘴巴. We recognized the key words 哭, 笑, 小鴨, 青蛙, 看, 聽, 唱, 叫, 喇叭 and 尾巴. Finally, we practiced some more for our CNY performance.
 
 
For English this week, students worked on long and short vowel words, such as boat, June, pan, and etc. Students also practiced reading a short story about the month of June, which talked about what they normally would do and see during the month of June.

 

 

First Grade: In Mandarin class this week, we reviewed the characters from last week and added  "春節, 游泳衣, 年, 生肖 and 恭喜“ to the list to help our students for the upcoming test. We also talked about the 12 Chinese Zodiac. Lastly we practiced writing characters, 空, 氣, 晴, 前, and 雨. We were ready for our Chinese New Year performance on Friday. We were all excited.

 

 

For English this week, students this week worked on writing a Chinese New Year story, they had to option to write a story on how they think Chinese New Year was first started or a story about any of the zodiac animals.

 

Second Grade: For Mandarin this week, we learned about lucky words and phrases to say during Chinese New Year. These include 五福臨門, 吉星高照, 歲歲平安. We made a greeting card decorated with fire crackers and lucky symbols. We reviewed second grade characters: 眼睛, 船, 洗, 活, 表. Lastly, we practiced for our CNY performance!

 

 

For English this week, students practiced spelling words from previous units to prepare for their upcoming spelling bee. In addition, they also worked on writing a story about Chinese New Year, using some of their previous spelling words.

 
 
 

 

Third Grade: In Chinese, we practiced filling in sentences with the correct measurement words (首,句,鍋,場) For example, 一首詩,一場大雨, and 一大鍋湯.

 

In English, we read a fairy tale story called The King Who Hated Cheese. Some new words we learned are uneasy, convicted, enclosed, and earnest. We then practiced identifying the synonyms of the words solemn, pact, condition, and confirmed.

 

 

 

 

Fourth grade: In Chinese, we practiced singing the Twelve Zodiac song. We can't wait to perform on Friday!

 

In English, we read the biography Eugenie Clark: Swimming with Sharks. We learned new vocabularies such as barrier, compose, industrious, shrivel, senseless, and jolt.
