February 22-26

Transitional Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week we began to read the lessons,走路去遛狗 and 少吃零食多吃飯. This week, we learned two new words,少, and食. We practiced these words using the worksheets as well as drawing pictures to go with the words. The lessons were sent home on Friday. Most importantly, we enjoyed singing and dancing along with the songs 妖怪手錶 and 小雨滴.

 

In Chinese Culture class, we made 愛心棒棒糖  lovable lallipop and 天燈 sky lantern. We continued to write words we leaned using calligraphy brush. We enjoyed singing and dancing along with the songs

 

With more practices, we continued to make progress in addition and subtraction. Some of us began to do addition with carrying over. 

 

English: This week in English class, students read the story “Cat’s Skit”. Through this story, students practice blending - sk, cl, sc, scr, bl and br sounds. Words that they have learned from this story is skit, cliff, scare, script, blast and brags. Other high frequency words the students have been practicing are kids, act, but, ask, big, can, cat, color and what.

In Art this week, students made tissue flowers. Students practice using their hand coordination as they slowly separate each tissue one by one.  The class also made 3D lady bugs. This project was easy and fun for the students as they realize how folding paper can make things pop! The last art project the students made was a spring bunny. The class used their creativity to change the image of each bunny. Some bunny had long straight ears, while others had short ears. Some of the bunny had silly eyes as well!

In Science class, students learned about the 8 phases of moon. They learned that moon also have it’s own cycle. The moon begin as a new moon, and is followed by waxing moon, 1st quarter (half) moon, waxing gibbous, full moon,waning gibbous, last (half) quarter, waning crescent and back to new moon. We demonstrated the cycle of moon through oreos. The class also learned about plants aplenty. Students learned the parts of plants - leaf, stem, seeds, and petals. They also learned what is needed to help plants grow - sunlight, air and water.

Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class we wrapped up lesson 11 五官和雙手 and the sentence frame ..正在.... We moved on to lesson 12 小狗和小雞 and 雪人怎麼不見了. We read the selections as well as highlighted the unfamiliar words. We then practices CP T2 words for writing and identifying. In calligraphy class, we learned the idiom  指鹿為馬 which literally mean to point to a deer for a horse. This week we learned two new songs, Open 小醬的魔法, 將康操, and 搭乘年.

 

First Grade

 

Chinese: This week in Chinese class, we  first reviewed T2 word list for identification and writing assessment.  We also reviewed words from lesson  6 and 7. We then moved on to lesson 8 and went over the unfamiliar words. We love to sing and dance  along with the two songs Open 小醬的魔法, 健康操 and 178 在一起就好。

 

Second Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we read the story,  國王扮乞丐 and completed the story map. From the story, we learned to show our compassion to the poor. In addition, we reviewed the lessons from CP, the geography to identify landforms and charactersitics of Earth. We did a mock test for the upcoming assessment and hope to do well at school.

 

Third/Fourth Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we  reviewed the words and phrases such as 麥片, 用品,聰明,同意,思念,陽光,and 糖水 in sentences. We wrote a diary on a trip to CuriOdyseyye in 3-7 sentences. From this activities, we learned to describe our favorite animals and their adaption to the environment in Chinese.

February 15-19

Transitional Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week we began to read the lessons,交通工具 and 腳印. This week, we learned the two new words,車and 竹. We practiced these words using the worksheets as well as drawing pictures to go with the words. Toward the end of the week, we can read these two lesson fluently. We took home the two lessons to read to mom and dad. . Most importantly, we enjoyed singing and dancing along with the new song  Eye眼健康操.

 

In Chinese Culture class, we made yarn art, fish in the ocean, and paper cutting art. We continued to write words we leaned using calligraphy brush. We enjoyed singing and dancing along with the songs

 

In Math, we continued to make progress in addition and subtraction. Some of us began to do addition with carrying over. We also made improvement in skip counting by 10 and by 5.

 

English: This week for English, students read the story, “Dog’s Plan”. Through this story, students continued to practice consonant blending. The class learned to blend - fr(frog), fl(flower), str(stripe), dr(drop), gr(grass), and gl(glad). The class were also introduced to high frequency words such as - fast, his, hand, had, of, off, do, hi, you, and your.

In Science class, students learned about the bones in our hand. To demonstrate how bones look inside, we used gloves and straws. We took five straws and placed them inside each finger glove. The class got a visual image of how our bones move inside and how bones gives our hands structure. The students also learned about blood cells and how they are living things inside of our body. They learned the difference between red and white blood cells and how white blood cells help fight off bacteria.

In Art class this week, students made Flower Pots that represents Spring. They had lots of fun creating this project as students learned how to follow simple step - by - step directions. Students used their creativity to visualize how their flowers will look like. All flowers were different as petals were placed differently by each individual.

Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class we reviewed lesson 11 五官和雙手 and words such as 目光,題目,耳朵,耳機,舌頭,舌尖,牙齒,牙刷,小心,開心,好吃,很好,正在,正方形. We also practiced T2 words for identification and writing. We moved on to lesson 12 小狗和小雞。In calligraphy class, we learned the idiom 井底之蛙 which literally mean that one's point of view is limited to the surrounding. This week we learned two new songs, 2016大盛年 and 站在高崗上.

 

First Grade

 

Chinese: This week in Chinese class, we reviewed T2 word list for identification and writing assessment.  We also reviewed lesson 7 春天到了 and 年的故事. In addition, we practiced reading and writing the words, 河,什麼,歌,流,海, 從,到,得,裡,里,入,新,年,春,幾。。。. We began reading lesson 8 怎麼回家. Toward the end of the week we were very good at reading the lesson. We love to sing and dance  along with the two songs 大盛年 and 喜洋洋.

 

Second Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we read the story, 老鼠娶新娘. We analyzed the story elements, main characters, setting, problem, solution and the ending to the story. From the story, we learned to value ourselves. In addition we learned read and write the new words, such as, 吹,於, 冷,熱,累, 自, and  己. We made phrases wtih these words and expanded our vocabulary.  Lastly, we did exercises by using 於是 to make sentences. 

 

Third/Fourth Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we  read the story 神農氏的故事. From the story we learned the myth that explains the origin of agriculture and medicine in China. We focused on reading aloud and refining our articulation. We learned new words, 麥片,用品,聰明,同意,意思,陽光 and 糖水. We used high frequency words, 光了,意思,沒意思 and 有意思 in sentences. 

 

February 8-12

Transitional Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week we reviewed previously learned lessons and characters. Students were able to read fluently and write the characters following the stroke orders in general. We will move on to our Book 3 set of lessons next week. We also loved to sing and dance the new songs, 小水滴 and 拜大年.

 

In Chinese Culture class, we wrote Chinese calligraphy to practice writing the chacters we learned. In addition, we did an experiment, 倒不出來的水. Do you know why the water did not flow out from the cup? 

 

In Math, we continued to make progress in addition and subtraction. Many of us began to add 2 digits addition without carrying over.  All the children enjoyed learning advanced math.

 

English: This week in English class, students read the story "A Top and an Ant". Through this story, the students practiced various high frequency words. Words that the students have been practicing are - a, and, at, as, did, I, in, is, it, land, last, no, not, on, sit, still and said. The class also practice different types of phonetic concept, such as, twin consonants like in the word "yell". The students have been introduced to plural words and have practiced changing non-plural words to plural. They have also been practicing blending sounds.

In Science this week, the class experimented with invisible ink. In order to make the magic mixture, you'll need baking soda and water. Each students were able to participate in the experiment by dipping their cotton swab into the magic mixture and writing their secret message. When it is completely dry, we painted or sprayed watercolor onto the paper to reveal the secret message.

For Art this week, students made flower bouquet by stuffing them with tissue paper. The project came out very lovely! The class also made their Valentine's Day goodie bags. They were very excited to have their bags filled with lots of goodies! A big thanks to everyone who participated!

Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class we completed lesson 11 五官和雙手. We practiced making sentences using the sentence frame,...正在.... We also practiced writing the characters 目,耳,舌,心,好,正. To reinforced our learning, we played puzzle games. In calligraphy class, we learned the idiom 開門見山 which literally mean to do in straight forward manners. This week we learned two new songs, 2016大盛年 and 水蜜桃姊姊潑水歌.

 

First Grade

 

Chinese: This week in Chinese class, we reviewed 小河的歌 , 中國新年是春節 and 小水滴旅行. We practiced writing the words 從, 到,得,裡,里 and making sentences using the sentence frames,到。。。去,從。。。到.  We continued to practiced  the CP word list for trimester 2 assessment. We learned two new songs 大盛年 and 新年喜洋洋.

 

Second Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we read the story, 自私的猴子 and completed the story map by identifying story elements. We learned from the story to help others and not to be selfish to others. In addition, we also read the story from our textbook, 北風和太陽. We practiced read aloud and highlighted the words we were unfamiliar with. Toward the end of the week, we were very good at reading aloud and understood the key words in the lesson.

 

Third/Fourth Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we  read the lesson 你變聰明了. We focused on reading aloud and practice the key words we learned from the story. The story is about a boy becoming smart by recognizing the "liquid medicine" is actually made from sugar syrup. We, on the other hand, learned to become smart by reading in our free time and pay more attention in class. 

 

February 1-5

Transitional Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week we learned the lessons,  洗衣服  and 刀和剪刀. This week we learned to write the characters, 衣 and 刀. We reviewed writing Chinese character book everyday and now we were better in recoginzing the characters. We practiced again the dances for our Chinese New Year performance.

 

In Chinese Culture class, we wrote calligraphy and made fire crackers. We listened to the story, Nian年. We learned that firecrackers were used to scare Nian away. In addition, we made fish art to represent Abundance 年年有餘。

 

In Math, we continued to make progress in addition and subtraction while a few of us began to learn number system in Mandarin.

 

English: This week, we read the story called, “The Big Fish”. Through this story, we reviewed many phonetic concept that includes short and long vowels, consonants, beginning and ending sounds. We earn words that had short vowels such as fish, grit, big, set, get, and can. We also review long vowels word that includes teeth, bite, and cook. Some ending sounds the students practice were words that end with -sh and -th like fish and with. Other words began with the -th sounds like the word this.

This week in art, the class made many Chinese New Year decorations. We worked on making a Chinese New Year charm with lucky sayings on them. We hung the charms on our classroom door. The children enjoy how pretty they turned out and were excited to see the charm dangling from our door.

 

In science, students worked on mixing red watercolor into a ziplock bag filled with popsicle sticks. They were amaze by the transfer of color that were absorbed by the sticks. The students were able to shake the bag and see how the watercolor absorb so quickly. We compared it to the trees outside because trees absorb water just like our popsicle sticks absorbing the watercoloring.

Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class we reviewed Lesson 10 and moved on to lesson 11,  五官和雙手. From the story, we learned to use our mouth to say nice words, to use our heart to think nice things, to use our hands to do good deeds and to use our feet to walk the right path. In calligraphy class, we learned the idiom 開門見山 which literally mean to do in straight forward manners. We also learned Kungfu movement to help us with 4 tones in Chinese. Most importantly , we loved sining and dancing 妖怪手錶 and 新年好.

 

First Grade

 

Chinese: This week in Chinese class, we reviewed 小河的歌 and moved on to lesson 7, 中國新年是春節 and 春節的故事:年獸的由來. We then moved on to 春天來了and 中國新年是春節. We talked about lucky food such as 水餃,長壽麵,年糕 and 團圓飯。We also discussed about Chinese customs to do 大掃除,拜年,紅包 and 過年...etc. We loved singing and dancing 咚咚鏘.

 

Second Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we learned the idiom, 人為財死,鳥為食亡. We discussed the story, identified story elements including characters, setting, problem, solution and ending of the story. We highlighted the words such as 馬路,身高,穿衣,比比看,對不起 and practiced making phrases and used them in sentences. We then put effort in practicing vocabulary for weekly assessent at our school.

 

Third/Fourth Grade

 

Chinese: The key skills we focused on this week are to make words and phrases using vacabulary we learned such as 特色,別人,吃藥, 醫生,神奇, 治病,and 很餓. To practiced writing skills, we wrote holiday greeting cards and explained in three to seven sentences why they like the holiday. It was a challenge but we all learned to apply the words we learned from the class.
