Transitional Kindergaten: In Mandarin class this week, we learned the radical 女 and extend our understanding that 奶奶, 媽媽, 姐姐, and 妹妹 all have the radical 女. We also learned to write the characters 木, 山, 女, 家. The interesting part was to pretend to be different animals and speak in their languages: dog is wang wang, cat is miao miao, and bird is zhi zhi. How about bees? Do you know how does a bee sound?

Kindergaten: In Mandarin, our kinders reviewed the lessons 眉毛搬家 and 五官和雙手. Our kinders also began the new lesson, 口說好話 and practiced writing sentences for 正在, 好, 沒有, 是. We read aloud the story 魚夫和金魚 and it was really interesting. Lastly, we learned to sing the Tang poems, 柳絮 and 池上. We also practiced for our Chinese New Year performance. Watch us out!
For English this week we worked long and short "i" sounds, such as pie, pit, rip, sip, rice, and etc. Students also worked on rhyming words such as cone and bone, nose and pose, and coat with boat.
First Grade: In Mandarin class this week, we learned and recited a poem about the seasons. We added new words: 刮風, 夏天, 秋天 and 游泳衣 to the list. Lastly we practiced writing characters, 再, 見, 喜, 歡, 時 and 候. We continued practiced singing 豆豆龍 and refining the dance movement for our Chinese New Year performance.
For English this week, students worked on writing a complete sentence for each of the list words in the previous units. They later got to share it with their classmates to decide how to better improve their sentences or fix grammatical errors.


1/19-23

Second Grade: In Mandarin, we learned the Tang poem, 登樂遊原. We learned the words such as 問, 吃, 吹,叫, 吐, 右 share the radical 口. For oral language, we practiced the dialogues in lesson 6. We also learned the idiom, 爭先恐後 which mean one wants to outdo others. Most importantly, we practiced writing the words 久, 晚, 怕, 什麼, 笑, 寫 for the test at the school.
For English this week, students worked on writing complete sentences with minimal grammatical errors using previous unit vocabulary words. Students also worked on practicing how to spell their previous words for the upcoming spelling bee.
Third Grade: In Chinese, we practiced putting two characters together to make new words such as 木+幾=機 and 前+刀=剪. Then we practiced using 到處, 倒進, 好像 in sentences.
In English, we learned new words that had the prefixes un-, in-, im-, and non-. Some example of these words are inexpensive, impractical, inaccurate, unpleasant, and nonspecific. We had to define the new words and then apply it to sentences.
Fourth grade: In Chinese, we identified the correct characters that had the same sound but different meaning to use in a sentence. Examples include 部 and 不, 吵 and 炒, 類 and 累. We also combined some of these words to use in a sentence.
In English, we read an article "Trouble in Paradise" that contained many of the vocabularies we studied in the past. We were tested on our comprehension of the article and our understanding of the vocabularies. Some words include: vast, transport, aggressive, luxurious, and hospitality.
Transitional Kindergaten: In Mandarin class this week, we begin the lesson "那是牛". In the lesson, we learned to write the characters:小, 那, 牛, 羊, 娃 and recognize the characters: 公園, 寫字, 唱歌, 看書 and apply them in sentences. Most importantly, we learned a new song 虎姑婆.

Kindergarten: In Mandarin class this week, we began a new lesson, 眉毛搬家 and 五官和雙手. In the lessons, we learned words about our body parts and how we should use them to do good deeds. We loved reading and writing Chinese but best of all we loved to sing Chinese songs!
For English this week, we worked on long and short I's. For example, students learned about Hive, Nine, Five, Tip, Trip, and etc. Students also got to make and read their own book called, Gus and Mom. A short story about how Gus got sick and how his mom took care of him.

First Grade: In Mandarin class this week, we reviewed the characters from last week and added "雨衣, 雨天, 月亮, and 雨傘“ to the list to help our students for the upcoming test. Lastly we practiced writing characters, 還, 猜, 都, 前, 門 and 兩. We continued practiced singing 豆豆龍 and movement for our Chinese New Year performance.
For English this week, we reviewed our past words from a previous unit, and worked on a sentence activity to help improve our word usage. Some of the words we studied were, bright, chew, forest, inn, island, and etc.


Second Grade: We read the story, 老鼠娶新娘 The Mouse Weds the Bride. The story is pretty interesting. It teaches us to be humble and not to be too proud of oneself. We also learned the idiom 一成不染 which means that we won't do bad thing. In addition, we reviewed the words including 裙, 鞋, 褲, 哭, 狗, 貓, 屋, 歌. Lastly, we learned to sing 對面的女孩看過來.
For English this week, students got to make corrections and review some of their past work. They are also began practicing spelling words to help boost retention on words and to get them started for an upcoming spelling bee next month.
Thirrd Grade: In Chinese, we learned about the different types things we can 回收 (recycle). Then we read a story about how to turn 垃圾(trash) into 肥料(fertilizer).
In English, we read a short section on "Do We Inherit Obesity?" and we learned about how our ancestors had a healthy lifestyle because they worked hard to survive instead of sitting in front of the TV or computer all day.
Fourth Grade: In Chinese, we learned new words such as 排骨湯,發燒,炒飯,水果類,骨頭 and applied them to sentences.
In English, we learned about the synonyms for identical, room, complete, downfall, and depart. We also learned about the antonyms for the words hidden, military, small, and reveal.

Kindergarten: In Mandarin class this week, we reviewed characters that we have learned including 白雲,花園, 於一,雨傘,白紙,白宮....We read the selections: 新年到 and 一粒米. We were so excited to practice singing and dancing the song 咚咚鏘過新年 for our Chinese New Year performace.
This week for English, students got to make and practice reading a book called "The Game Day Box". Students also worked on short and long "A" words and trying to determine which words fit in the right category.

First Grade: In Mandarin this week, we reviewed previous lessons. We then practiced the characters recognition for " 春天,天氣,晴天,陰天,多雲,下雪,下雨,太陽“ to help our students for the upcoming test. Lastly we practiced writing characters, 時候,先,再見, and 喜歡. We also practiced singing 豆豆龍 for our
Chinese New Year performance.
This week for English, students worked on practicing vocabulary words in the previous lesson and using them properly in a sentence. Some of the words the students studied were, arrive, enormous, snowstorm, rainbow, and etc.


Second Grade: In Mandarin class this week, we begin the lesson 北風和太陽.
We learned words that have the radical 足: 跑, 跳, 路, 跟. We also learned the Chinese idiom: 小心翼翼. Our second graders were super good with practicing characters for assessment at their school. All of them did wonderful joy!
This week for English, students worked on past vocabulary words for review. Students practiced spelling, using them in a sentence, and sentence flow. Some of the words they used were aim, drift, pause, aware, and etc.
Third grade: In Chinese, we read about the poem 春曉 and learned new words such as 到處, 夜晚, 半夜, 肥料, and 聽見. Then we learned a new song about the 十二生肖 (Chinese Zodiacs).
In English we completed a comprehension practice sheet of all the vocabularies we have learned so far. We also learned about words with suffixes such as -ment, -ity, -ive, and -like.
Fourth grade: In Chinese, we learned about the words 陪 and 部. They look really similar but soon we realized that they are two completely different words. Other words we learned are 身體, 剛才, 剛上市, and 小吃部.
In English, we read a biography of Emily Dickinson called The Surprising Life of Emily Dickinson. From this story, we learned new words such as conceal, apparent, provoke, keen, and undoing.
