Third Grade: In Chinese, we read the story 北極星和指南針 (The North Star and the compass). We learned that the Milky Way is called 銀河,North Star is 北極星,Silk Road is 絲路,and that Chinese people invented the compass (指南針) which then spread to other countries. We also practiced using the phrase "最近。。。”.
In English, we read a magazine article "Love Those Bugs!" We learned about how insects pollinate, improve soil, protect plants, and provide products. Some new words we learned are hazardous, necessity, deliberate, regain, and compliment. We practiced identifying the synonyms and antonyms of the words congratulate, dangerous, requirements, hurried, and lose.
Fourth Grade: In Chinese, we completed sentences using the expression phrases 好看極了,真不公平,好痛啊, 沒問題,很了不起。 We also practiced forming sentences with the phrases “雖然。。。可是”, 總共,總是。
In English, we practiced identifying and using words that have similar pronunciations such as access/excess, advise/advice, cease/seize, and persecuted/prosecuted. We also practiced naming different types of travelers using the words nomad, commuter, tourist, and pilgrim.

Kindergarten:
Students this week worked on contraction words, such as "do not" becomes "don't" and "it is" becomes "it's". Students also worked on writing a short list of thing they plan to see or do over summer and drew pictures to detail each one.
First Grade:
Students this week for English worked on reading short stories and using parts of the story to summarize and describe the main characters. Students also worked on writing their summer plans in a check list or short story format.
Second Grade:
Students this week worked on antonyms and synonyms relating to their vocabulary words. Students also worked on creating combining prefixes to their vocabulary words and explaining their definition due to its change.
Third Grade: In Chinese, we did a matching exercise that matched pictures to their appropriate sentences such as 請排隊,閃電很可怕,北極熊住在北極。 Then we did a worksheet on the story “北極星和指南針” that tested us on the vocabularies we learned in this chapter.
In English, we studied homophones which are words that have similar pronunciations but have different meanings such as addition/edition, lose/loose, and wary/weary. We also learned more idioms by figuring out their meanings in sentences. Some idioms we particularly enjoyed are "head and shoulders above", " get my feet wet ", " neck and neck ".
Fourth Grade: In Chinese, we practiced using the phrases 總是,總共,總統 to compete different sentences. We also completed a worksheet on the story of 花木蘭 that tested us on the chapter's vocabularies.
In English, we read a passage called Trouble in Paradise. The passage was mainly written to describe an island country and its problems. We were able to determine the meaning of words such as vast, transport, aggressive, luxurious, and accomplish by using context clues.

Transitional Kindergarten: For Mandarin this week, we worked on the question, 你的生日是幾月幾日? We practiced identifying the phrases, 子女, 稻田, 白米 and writing the characters, 巴, 叫, 也 手, 蛙.
Kindergarten: For Mandarin this week, we practiced identifying and writing characters for upcoming assessment. We hope everyone score high in the test!
For English this week, students worked on compound words and reading comprehension. Students read short stories such as Ken and Mike go on boat and The dog in the park, while answering questions related to the story.
First Grade: For Mandarin this week, we practiced identifying and writing characters for upcoming assessment. We hope everyone score high in the test!
For English this week, students worked on cause and effects and reading comprehension. For cause and effect, students were given scenarios for causes and had to use their imagination to create an effect. For example, Cause: Robbie's bike had a flat tire. Effect: Robbie was then late for school. For reading comprehension students read about what 3-D is, and answered questions about what other shapes are 3-D and why do we call it 3-D?
Second Grade: In Mandarin this week, we practiced writing and identifying characters for upcoming assessment. In addition, we learn words with the radicals 木, including 樓, 樣, 朵, 椅. We leared the new phrases, 真貴, 美味, 甜美, 後果. Most importantly, we learned the idiom 日落而息 which teaches us to be deligent.
For english this week, students worked on sentence structure, antonyms, and synonyms. For sentence structure, students had to reorganize sentences into proper ones, by either adding new words, fixing misspelled words, adding periods, and etc. For antonyms and synonyms students had to find the opposite or similar meaning words such as abundant, formal, purify, revoke, and etc.
Third Grade: In Chinese, we learned new vocabulary such as 北極,靠近,閃電,排隊,星球。 We did a matching exercise and sentence completion exercise for these words.
In English, we learned about analogies and their relationships. Some examples are "oven is to bake as lens is to magnify" and "spring is to season as tennis is to sport". We also learned about word choices that can describe a friend based on how well we know the person; these words are ally, companion, acquaintance, and peer.
Fourth Grade: In Chinese, we did a worksheet on sentence completion using the words 退伍軍人,個性,姓,取. Then we read a sample sign up sheet about a contestant's personal information to answer questions.
In English, we learned to use words that describe behavior, such as aggressive, arrogant, assertive, and impulsive. Then we used personal examples to explain each behavior and also applied these words to sentences.

Transitional Kindergarten: In Mandarin class this week, we learned the new phrases, 山上, 樹木, 月亮, 家人. We learned to use measure words 一隻, 一塊, 一根, 一本. We loved singing the new song, 小娃娃. Most importantly, we made cards for our moms.
Kindergarten: In Mandarin class this week, we reread the story 我的手拿不出來了. We practiced applying the following phrases in sentences: 這裡, 那裡, 姓名, 一位, 隻, 交給, 語言. We also worked on upcoming assessment.
This week for English, students worked on compound words and reading comprehension. Compound words are two words joined together to make a new word, such as butterfly, rainbow, wheelchair, and sunflower. Students also read short rhyming stories, and answered questions relating to it.
First Grade: In Mandarin class this week, we read the story 小雪的魔筆. We learned the following phases: 醒來, 孟建, 孤兒, 一艘船, 大海, 窮人, 王宮, 國王. We practiced applying 長大, 長短, 為什麼, 以為, 很高, 很快, 很遠. In addition, we practice writing and identifying characters for upcoming assessment.
For English this week, students worked on reading comprehension, which focused on short articles such as what are "Step by Step Instructions" and "Food is our Fuel". Students then answered question relating to the article, along with questions to alternatives, such as "what else requires fuel?" and what other projects can require step by step instructions.
Second Grade: In Mandarin class this week, we learned words that has the radicals 木, such as, 相,林,李, 桌. We learned the idiom 日出而作 to encourage us to be deligent about our work. We also practiced for our upcoming assessment.
This week for English, students worked on fixing some corrections from last weeks assignments. Students then continued to work on a new chapter that focused on a new set of words such as tradition, revive, glory, and approach. Students also participated in a group activity, where each student made a sentence using new words that they learned to create an every changing story.
Third Grade: In Chinese, we learned more about the planets (星球). We read a story on how to remember the names of each planet easily and how the planets got their Chinese names.
In English, we read an article about the United Nations. We learned about UNICEF. We learned new vocabularies such as peculiar, abstract, manufacturing, overthrew, and ally. Then we did a worksheet on synonyms and antonyms for words like anxious, inattentive, topple, evident, doubted
Fourth Grade: In Chinese, we did worksheets on sentence completion using the phrases 受不了,受得了,接受,忍受。We also learned to combine two sentences into one using the word "被".
In English, we reviewed our words from last week. Those words include ensure, tart, principle, navigate, and principle.
