May 16-20

Transitional Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week we learned the lessons, 爆米花 and 男生女生. We learned to write  米 and 女, We were very good at reading and writing. This week we learned to sing and dance to the songs, 牽你的手,釣魚記, and 小木馬. We continued to practice for our graduation song and dance! 

 

In Chinese Culture class, we made a visor. We learned to say the 太陽帽,卡紙 and the color words in Mandarin. In addition, we did paper folding in a shape of an elephant. Through hands-on activities, we learned to converse in Mandarin.

 

In Math, we continued to make progress in addition and subtraction. All of us made great improvement in Math

 

English: This week in English, students read the story, “Joy’s Trip to the Toy Shop”. Through this story, the students learned oi, oy and ea phonetic concepts. Words that they have learned from this story are reached, clean, each, eat, please, read, spoil and toys. They learned that ea makes the long e sounds. The class also compared “ee” and “ea” words together. 

In Art, the students worked on their “Pop-Up Whale” art. This project required lots of cutting and gluing. The students practiced cutting and drawing straight lines through this project. They also enjoy this project and one of the many reasons why is because it looks very cute!

This week in Science class, the students observed the green penny. Last week, we turned a regular penny into a shiny penny. This week, the class decided to experiment shiny to green. Through this experiment, the student learned how shiny penny exposed to oxygen reacts to the copper oxide in the penny making it turn green-blue. The green-blue compound is called malachite. 

Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class we focused on trimester 3 test. We practiced writing the words and identifying them. Although we were very good at it, we continued practicing to make sure we score high in the test. Teacher Nick substituted for teacher Vickie for the next week.

Second Grade

 

Chinese: This week in Chinese class we read lesson 10 美國是我們的國家. The lesson discusses about America is our country and we protect our country. In addition, we also read the story 神秘的禮物 and completed the story map. Most importantly, we practice vocabulary words for upcoming social studies and science tests.

 

 

Third/Fourth Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we reread lesson 10 埋草帽的人 and focused on the key phrases: 熱鬧,音樂,急忙,方便,抓著, 逃走 and 重要. We applied these phrases in sentences as well as filling in the blanks with the correct words or phrases. Lastly, we practiced for upcoming trimester 3 test.

Transitional Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week we learned the lessons, 煙火花 and 黏土. We learned to write  火 and 土, We were very good at reading and writing. This week we learned to sing and dance to the songs, 牽你的手,釣魚記, and 外婆的屋簷. 

 

In Chinese Culture class, we made little yellow duck 小黃鴨 and pink little pig 粉紅小豬. For the yellow duck we first painted a paper plate yellow, cut in half, and add feather, beak and legs. For pink pig, we fold a square paper into a pig and decorated with eyes.  mouth and nose.M

In the process, we learned to follow directions and practice Mandarin conversation skills.

 

In Math, we continued to make progress in addition and subtraction while a few of us began to learn number system in Mandarin.

 

English: This week in English, students read the story “Baby’s Sunny Room”. Through this story, students learned words that end with a “y”. Words that end in with a “y” could make long “e” or long “I” sounds. The class also learned how to make singular nouns into plural by adding –s at the end of the word. The class was also introduced to nouns that end with a –y and turning them into plural by either dropping the “y” and adding if the –y follows a consonant. If the –y follows a vowel, just add a –s at the end to make it plural. 

 

This week in art, students were able to create a turtle out of cupcake baking cups. Students were able to color and decorate their cupcake sheet however they like. This art project allowed students to use their hand coordination by putting the pieces of the turtle together.

 

This week in science, the class did the “Penny Change” science experiment. The first experiment was to change dull pennies into shiny pennies! The students learned that pennies are made of copper and zinc. They also learned about copper oxide that makes penny look dull and dirty. Using Vinegar and a teaspoon of salt, it allowed the copper oxide to disappear leaving it shiny. The class is also currently doing another penny change experiment by changing a shiny penny into a green penny.

Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class we read lesson 15 什麼是朋友. We discussed about friendship, using nice words to say and nice way to act. We focused on measure words such as 藍,根,個,條,隻.... We reviewed Trimester 3 word lists for identification and for writing.  For calligraphy this week, we wrote 心想好念, to think about nice thoughts toward others. Lastly, we sang the songs 跳舞機器人,功夫小子and 寶貝.

 

First Grade

 

Chinese: This week in Chinese class, we reread lesson 10 小老鼠貝貝 and focused on the story sequence and important details. We also continued to practiced T3 Chinese characters for writing and identifying. We worked on writing characters from lesson 9. Lastly, we sang the songs, 跳舞機器人 . 功夫小子and 寶貝.

 

 

Second Grade

 

Chinese: This week in Chinese class we focused on the key skills: to make phrases using vocabulary we learned from the story 買不到的禮物. These vocabulary were 平原,直升機,落葉,城市,市長,農場. We prepared for upcoming social studies test by reviewing the terminologies. In addition, we read the story 海上的守護神 and completed the story map. We also practiced Chinese characters for writing and idenfying for T3 assessment.

 

 

Third/Fourth Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we read lesson 1- 埋草帽的人. The story is about a straw-hat vender susing a technique to get stolen straw hats back from the monkeys. We practiced reading aloud and identifying unfamiliar words and phrases. We also completed the exercise by combining two characters to form new words or phrases.

English: This week in English, the class read the story, “The Hurt Bird”. Through this story, the students reviewed r-controlled phonetic concepts (ir and ur) and “ow”. The class also learned the difference between hard and soft c words. Soft C words are followed by e, i, and u. Words that they’ve learned from the story are birch, burst, race, follow, grow, hurt, show, and turn. Other words that they have learned are circus, cyclone, centipede and cent.

 

In Art this week, the students made a “Ladybug Patch”. The students were put into groups and worked as a team to complete their ladybug patch. Everyone participated by cutting, gluing and drawing. This project was very fun and students were ecstatic about working as a team to complete their artwork.

 

For Science, the class discussed about fossils and the different type of fossils that can be found. The students enjoy discussing about dinosaurs’ fossils and plant fossils the most. We took a look at some x-ray photos of some plant fossils and sea creatures. The class was amazed to see the photos; some even say that the picture does not look like what they are supposed to be. The students are amazed at how things look when they are decay. 

Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class we continued to reviewed Trimester 3 word lists for identification and for writing.  We read lesson 15 什麼是朋友 and discussed about friendship. We also reviewed reading the story 我的手拿不出來了.  We were very good at reading aloud. For calligraphy this week, we wrote 口說好話, to say nice words to others. Lastly, we sang the songs 天空遊樂場 and 寶貝.

 

First Grade

 

Chinese: This week in Chinese class, we read lesson 10 小老鼠貝貝 and reviewed the characters 長,本, 先,拿,共, 才,毛,怎,蛙,由, 會, 黑,起,妹,跳,爬,跑, 飛.  We also continued to practiced T#3Chinese characters for writing and identifying. Lastly, we sang the songs, 跳舞機器人 and 寶貝.

 

 

Second Grade

 

Chinese: This week in Chinese class we read the story, 買不到的禮物. The story is about a little girl, Qing-Qing mae a pink shells necklace for her mother. We discussed about the story as well as focus on unfamiliar words. In addition, we read the story 噶瑪蘭公主 and completed the story map. We also practiced Chinese characters for writing and idenfying for T3 assessment.

 

 

Third/Fourth Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we made phrases and sentences using vocabulary we learned. These phrases include 桃子, 休假, 睡衣, 吵架, 當然 and 連接. We practiced connectiong the phrases to the pictures to reinforce these vocabulary. Lastly the students practiced telling stories in Mandarin to the class.

May 2-6

Transitional Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week we learned the lessons, 左手右手and 魚兒在水裡. We practieced writing the characters 水 and 手. We learned to say Happy Mother's Day in Mandarin  母親節快樂!For sing along, we sang the songs 牽你的手 and 釣魚記.

 

In Chinese Culture class, we made Mother's Day mini books for our moms. We also did paper-folder to exercise our little hands. This week we made little mouse.

 

In Math, we continued to make progress in addition and subtraction while a few of us began to learn number system in Mandarin.

 

English: This week in English, the students read the story, “Lost on a Farm”. Through this story we reviewed r-controlled words (ar and or) as well as –ch, and –qu sounds. Words the class learned from the story are – farm, carry, start, far, chicks, for, or, and quack. Other words the class learned are – cheese, chair, star, door, and quail.

 

In Art, the students have been working on their Mother’s Day Project. They were able to finish up their surprise for their Moms! The students made hand-written cards and painted on their plant box for their mothers.

 

This week in Science, the class discussed about dinosaurs. They named different types of dinosaurs, their habitat and the structures of dinosaurs. We will continue our lesson on dinosaurs next week. 

Kindergarten

 

Chinese: In Chinese class we reviewed Trimester 3 word lists for identification and for writing.  We also reviewed vocabulary we learned such as 比一比,比賽,李子,行李,刀子,見到,座位,一位老師,哎呀,草地,草莓,大象,象牙. We also reread lesson 14 比一比.  For calligraphy this week, we wrote 七步成詩 which relates to a historical story of the Caocao who came up with a poem in seven foot-steps. Lastly, we sand and danced to the songs 跳舞機器人 and 寶貝. 

 

First Grade

 

Chinese: This week in Chinese class, we read lessons, 書和筆, 一共游幾本書,小雪手中一枝筆 and the story 小雪的墨筆。 We reviewed trimester 3 word lists for identification and for writing. Lastly, we sang the songs快樂崇拜 and 寶貝。

 

Second Grade

 

Chinese: The key skills for Chinese class this week is for students to make phrases using vocabulary such as 眼睛,眼鏡, 樓上, 廚師,院子,請客, etc . We read lesson 9 我的眼睛呢?The  activity is for students to practice reading aloud and recognize the unfamiliar words and phrases. We also read the story  海龍王當媒人 and completed the story map to identiy the story map. In addition, we practiced for T3 word list.

 

 

Third/Fourth Grade

 

Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we  read the story端午節的這一天. We focus on reading aloud with fluency and intonation. From the story, the students learned about the Dragon Boat Festival which falls on June 9 of this year. Eating zhongzi or rice dumpling is to commemorate the patriot poet  Qu Yuan 屈原, The Dragon Boat Festival is also called Poet's Day. In addition, the students completed worksheets related to the story.
