November 16-20






Transitional Kindergarten
Chinese: In Chinese class this week we reviewed the rhymes 大熊大and took home the rhyme to recite for our moms and dad. We learned the new rhymes, 大朋友, 小朋友 and 大白鵝. We were very good at reciting and dancing the two rhymes. We reviewed the previously learned characters and added 木 to our list.
In Chinese Culture class, we made Thanksgiving cards to say thank you to our moms and dads. Most importantly, we learned to say Happy Thanksgiving!
In Math, we continue to count forward, backward and skip count by 5 and by 2. At this time, we learned addition facts to the sum of 10. Hooray!
English: In English, TK learned how to sound out “Qu” through the story, “What a Soft Quilt". The students learned that the letter “Q” and “U” are go together like best friends. The class learned words such as queen, question, quail, quiet, quilt, and quack. Another story they read for this week is called, “Zack’s Big Black Truck”. Through this story, students learned the ending sound “-ck”. They recognize the ending of the words such as Zack, truck, Huck, black, back, track, and sick. To help them understand -ck more, they were introduced to vowels. They now know vowels consists of A, E, I, O and U. The students understand that -ck is never used at the beginning of words but rather at the end and only after vowels.
For Art this week, students cut out shapes and glued them together to make a corn. To add in sensory play, students were able to touch and feel real corn kettle. They sprinkled dried corn kettle onto their corn to give it texture. The class was very excited to see how their corn had come out after everything had dried. Next, students worked further more on their gross motor skill by cutting out snowflakes out of coffee filter. They were amazed to see how the snowflakes had turned out when they opened it to see the finishing result. The next art we worked on was a thumb print poster of the students. The class created “Christmas lights” out of their thumbprints. Each student was able to choose their colors for their light and started printing away on the poster. The picture came out to look exactly like Christmas lights!
In Science, students learned how paper absorbs water really quickly, especially with coffee filter. The class experimented with coffee filter and watercolor markers. Each student got to choose the colors they wanted and drew a circle in the middle of the coffee filter over and over again. After, we folded them and put them in water for about 3 minutes. The class watched as the paper began to absorb the water and the color began to rise throughout the coffee filter. We let the coffee filter dry on top of the newspaper.


Kindergarten
Chinese: In Chinese class we began the week with the story, 森林大火.
We then moved on to lesso 7, 紅花和白花. We reviewed the vocabularies that we previously learned and added 紅, 也, 早, 卡, 生. We completed Thanksgiving project and presented our projects to the class. Most importantly, we learned a new song, Da Da Da.
First Grade
Chinese: This week in Chinese class, we wrapped up lesson 4, 猜猜看. We reviewed previously learned vocabularies and added 前, 門, 猜, 兩, 們, 都. We learned the new idiom, 多才多藝 which means very talented individual. We completed Thanksgiving project and presented our projects to the class. Most importantly, we learned a new song, Da Da Da.
Second Grade
Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we focused on pin yin sounds: j, q, x, y and v. We learned the pin yin song to reinforce these sounds. We read aloud the story, 話是收不回來的 and completed the story map. From the story, we learned to be kind and say nice words to others. We will continue to practice writing and identifying characters preparing for future assessments from our day school. We wrapped up the week with learning a new song, 小蘋果.
Third/Fourth Grade
Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we read the selection, 我不姓王. We learned to identify and write the vocabularies: 玉米, 種花, 等一下, 老公公, 收成. We did dictation on these vocabularies on Friday. For speaking practice, students delivered a short speech using 忽然, 因為, 而且, 所以. We wrapped up the week with learning a new song, 小蘋果.
November 9-13








Transitional Kindergarten
Chinese: In Chinese class this week we learned the rhymes, 一二三木頭人 and 大熊大 and added the movement to the rhymes. We all learned to write the character 山. Most important of all, we learned to write our Chinese names without help.
In Chinese Culture class, we learned to say Thanksgiving, turkey..etc in Mandarin. We wrote 謝謝 to go with our beautiful turkeys.
In Math, we learned to write numbers 1-20 in Chinese characters. We knew to count forward, backward and skip count by 5 and by 2.
English: This week, students read the story “The Camp Van”. The class learned to identify the “v” sound in words such as - five, hive, and have. They also identify words that have the beginning “v” sounds - vase, van, and very. Our next story was called, “Can Fox Fix It?” In this story, the kids learned how to recognize the “x” sounds. Words that they have learned from this story are - fox, fix, Rex, box, mix and x-ray.
In Art, the class made a thankful turkey out of their handprint. On their handprint, the kids wrote 5 things that they were thankful for. We added all of the handprints together to create the feathers on our turkeys. The kids enjoyed the outcome of our class turkeys. Next, the class worked on creating a Fall Season Tree. From what they have learned in science, the students wanted to make a tree out of the fall colors - orange, yellow, red and brown. We used paint and q-tips to create the tree. The students enjoyed playing with q-tips and how it helped create perfect circles on their tree. The class really enjoyed this project by saying how their trees looked really beautiful!
In Science, the students learned “Why Leaves Change Color”. They learned the word chlorophyll and how it helps with making the leaves green. Next, they learned when chlorophyll breaks down, the leaves begins to turn to different color. To explore the leaves changing color, the class helped get the leaves and mush them in hydrogen peroxide. With this, it would help break down the chlorophyll. We then placed the cup into a bowl with heated water and let it rest for about 30 minutes. The class watched and took turn to see what was happening to the leaves. Last, we took coffee filter paper and dipped it into the cup of leaves and waited for it to dry to see how the color changed.
Kindergarten
Chinese: In Chinese class we first reviewed lesson 1-6 and then began Lesson 7, 紅花和白花 Red and White Flowers. We practiced making phraseses and sentences for the key words that we have learned. In addition to our favorite song, 小蘋果, we sang 稍息立正站好 and thee new song with sign language, 感謝 to say thank you to parents and friends for helping us grow and flourish!
First Grade
Chinese: This week in Chinese class, we reviewed Lesson 1-4 and practiced our key words from our school to keep up with the assessment from the school. We learned the idom, 才高八斗 which literally means having super talent. The fun part of the class was singing. We sang our favorites, 稍息立正站好 and the new song with sign language, 感謝.
Second Grade
Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we read the story 大家一起戴 帽子. From the story, we learned to giving our helping hands and to respect others. We reviewed previous learned lessons and focus on the key words, 期. 非, 常. 具,動, 物, 邊. We not only learned to write but also learned to make phrases and sentences using these words. This week we added movement to the song, 蟲兒飛.
Third/Fourth Grade
Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we learned to make phrases and sentences for 細, 虎. 錯, 認, 師, 答, 變. We applied these key words in an iimpromptu speech which were very entertaining. We continue to memormrize the song 蟲兒飛 and added dance move to the song.
November 2-6





Transitional Kindergarten
Chinese: In Chinese class we read the rhymes, 請你進來 Please Come In, and 木頭人 Wooden Man. We all were very good at reciting and we took home the rhyme, 請你進來 Please Come In to read to mommy and daddy. In addition, this week we learned to write 早, 哭, 笑. We needed more practice on writing.
In Chinese Culture class, we learned to describe feelings: 哭, 笑, 害羞, 害怕, 生氣. We drew the the expression to go with characters describing feelings.
In Math, we learned to count backward, compose and decompose the numbers. We began to do simple addition and will practice more next week.
English: We read the mini books, Big Cats and Sit, Yum-Yum. We practiced word recognition for the letter "C" from Big Cats These words are can, cat, cut, coat, corn, and clip. We worked on gross motor skills by cutting out our big cat. From Sit, Yum-Yum, we learned to reconize the "Y" sound and words that began with the letter "Y". These words are yip, yap, yum, yes, and you. Although the word "You" began with the letter "Y", we learned that it sounds like the letter "U".
In Art, we worked on our "Turkey" plate project. We recogonized the letters of our names on the feathers. We had fun painting the plate and putting on the finishing touches on our turkeys.
In Science, we learned the three types of roucks-metamophic, sedimentary and igneous rocks. We learned how rocks are formed. We enjoyed playing with magnifying glass to look at the rocks in more details. We will continue to work on our rock report to show our understanding by identifying the size, color, sshape and the feel of each type of rocks.



Kindergarten
Chinese: In Chinese class we completed lesson 6, 媽媽的生日 and 起得早. Every one of us was able to read the lesson fluently. We learned the new characters: 天, 生, 日, 卡, 早, 也, 紅. To reinforce newly learned characters and review previously learned characters, we played sticky ball game and practiced writing these characters. We learned a new song, 稍息立正站好. For Chinese calligraphy, we wrote 力爭上游, an idiom describing one's persistence to be better.
First Grade
Chinese: We began the class with singing a new song 稍息立正站好. We then read Lesson 3 story 友友的午飯. From the story we learned to say different food items including 三明治, 麵包, 花生米, 牛奶, 水餃. More importantly, we practiced writing Lesson 2 characters and played sticky ball to reinforce these characters.
Second Grade
Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we read the story 冷靜的老驢子. From the story we learned to be calm and think thoroughly before making decision. We practiced writing the characters:東, 西, 瓜, 南, 直, 現, 空 and make phrases to increase our vocabulary. Lastly, we learned to sing the song, 蟲兒飛. We learned not only to sing but also to learn the new words.
Third/Fourth Grade
Chinese: In Chinese class this week, we learned to make phrases and sentences for 各, 其, 英,遊, 通, 抱, 著. To help us with speaking skills, we each took turn to apply these words in a brief presentation. We also reviewed Pinyin and recite the Pinyin rhyme. Lastly, we learned to sing the song, 蟲兒飛. We learned not only to sing but also to learn the new words.
