Summer Camp 2016

 

Genius Learning offers educational and exciting summer camp. Students will participate in core academic program in Mandarin Language Arts and Math in the morning while being immersed in unique themes loaded with hands on activities in the afternoon. Here are the highlights of 2016 Summer Camp!

June 20-24

Design & Build

Summer is a wonderful time to exercise imagination and be creative. Children will learn the basic of design and build marble and scribbling machines from familiar materials.

July 5-July 8

Santa's Workshop

Santa works during summer to bring toys to children in winter. This week students will learn to be Santa’s helpers making toys while at the same time learn the scientific terms and engage in thinking process. 

June 27-July 1

Circuits

Summer is a great time to exercise imagination and build things with their hands. Children will learn to collaborate and problem solve in the process of exploring the science of engineering. 

July 11-15

Circus, Circus!

Students will learn the tricks to amaze their friends and families while at the same time develop skills and understanding in the science behind and around them!

July 18-22

Beach, Bubble & Balloons

Summer is an excellent time to play with bubbles and balloons, Children will play with bubbles, water balloon piñata, water balloon hunt while at the same time learn about the air pressure, polymers…etc.

July 25-29

Balancing Acts

Students will be immersed in fun and challenging projects and gain deeper understanding of how things work. Children will learn to design and build models to explain how their mechanism works.

August 1-5

Magnets & More

If you wonder about how things move, this is the workshop for you. This week students will explore and construct models to show their understanding of how magnets are used in our daily life.

August 8-12

Young Architects

Students will build 3-D models of their dream home. They will draw floor plan, trace and make furniture onto their plan.  Yes! It will be a challenge project for all of us!

August 15-19

Tinkering 

Students will be encouraged to be tinkers and to kick start their love of science. Children will work on projects and learn to collaborate, problem solve, and exercise their imaginations.

August 22-26

Toy Factory

Students will learn about Chinese idioms. Working in groups, students will write scripts, create costumes & prop, and present their skits through drama & play. Yes…it will be in Mandarin!

Summer Program Frequently Asked Questions and Answers:


1. Can my child participate on a per day basis?
     Sorry, only the weekly option is available.

2. Can I register my child for different sessions as we go through the summer?

     Yes, you can.

 

3. Instead of AM/PM selection, can my child participate between 10 AM -3 PM and pay half day camp fee?
     Full day camp fee will be accessed even with late drop-off and early pick-up.

 

4. If my student is in the afternoon class, can he/she come earlier to eat lunch with the other students?

     Yes, your student may come earlier to eat lunch.

 

5. Can children’s lunch be heated?  Do we have to pack our own snacks?
     Yes, we can heat children's lunch. Parents will need to prepare lunches and snacks. Please no soft drinks and candy. Also, due to the        

     high number of students with severe nut allergies, please do not prepare food containing peanuts.  If you prefer, you can order lunch at        $15/week.

 

6.  What number to contact the school for late pick up or any other emergency?

7. If my student misses a day/days in a week, can he/she make it up in a different week?
     Sorry, no make-up days are available.

8.  Can I switch around the weeks that I registered?
      It's only allowed if we are given two weeks notice.  Students can stay in a class only if his/her name appears on the camper list.

9.  Where is the location?
      Our location is at 700 Peninsula Avenue, Burlingame.

10.  Is there any outdoor time?
        Yes, we have big shaded playground.

 

11.  Are there any discounts for siblings?

       Yes, there is a 10% discount for the second student. 

 

12. If I register for more than one week, do I need to pay the tuition all at once?

      Yes, but you may pay using separate checks. If the tuition is paid using a separate check, it will only be deposited at the beginning of the registered week. The tuition check should be included with the registration forms. 

 

There have been some questions about the format of the summer program from parents. Summer program has a lot more hands-on activities, crafts, and Chinese culture than regular school year program.
